Lemon...Aid

Sooo I hear lemon can aid so many things in your beauty regime so ladies/fellas.... It's all about lemons!

Lemons are a fruit high in acidity, grown all over the world, many experts and non expert alike are using lemons for many reasons in the beauty world!

Like many fruits, lemons are high in vitamin C and B! The unique flavonoid compounds are beauty boostingly good for you!

So cheap to buy - particularly in supermarkets like Aldi, lemons are a cheap solution for many beauty dilemmas!

For your Hair
Lemons can be great for dry and damaged hair, I never knew this I just though lemons were good for making your hair lighter in the sun! However using lemons in a hair mask can be a super simple, super cheap way to nourish your hair back to health!

To make a great DIY hair mask, simply combine
- ¾ cup of olive oil, (my must have in your beauty box!)
- ½ cup of honey, (organic preferred to avoid any other chemicals getting into contact with your skin)
- three tablespoons of lemon juice

Instructions for use (nicer in a warm bubbly bath!)

Shampoo your hair and comb the lemon juice mixture through your strands. Then, cover your hair with a shower cap. Leave the mixture on for a half hour then shampoo you hair again. This gives you

For your scalp
Treat Dry Scalp and Dandruff - Combine 1/2 cup of olive or coconut oil (melted) with 2 or more tablespoons of fresh lemon juice. Massage into your scalp, then cover with a cap for at least 15 minutes or even overnight. Rinse your hair well, then shampoo and condition. Repeat as necessary.

For your Nails
I really do not take sufficient care of my nails, I often look at other girls and think that I really should up my game! But I am always doing something crafty or manual and just end up ruining good nail work! I have to admit, I pick at my cuticles (was my cure for biting my nails!). I have been using lemon juice to help soften my cuticles.

For whiter nails
Simply soak your fingernails in straight lemon juice for about 10 minutes. Then using a soft brush, (nail brush or old toothbrush) with a mixture of 1/2 white vinegar and 1/2 warm water. Rinse with warm water.

You don't get immediate results with this, it takes time however is a simple, quick treatment that can help your fingernails stay strong, long, and bright! I am working on mine, will share before and after results in a few weeks!

For your Skin
I always love to exfoliate, at least twice per week to remove dead skin cells and smoothen my complexion. Lemons are great as natural exfoliant. Really simple to use by using a cut lemon dipped in half a teaspoon of sugar and gently rubbing it all over your face for a few minutes. This will soften and get rid of dead skin cells.

It's not just good as an exfoliant lemons on your skin are good at reducing age spots and anti ageing and it is known to naturally help boost your skin’s collagen production.

Oily Skin
If you are looking too oily, Norma Garza, the founder of Norma's Touch Skin Specialty Spa in Houston, recommends combining two tablespoons of lemon juice, two tablespoons of vodka, one tablespoon of distilled water and one tablespoon of witch hazel. She says to apply the mixture with cotton ball to oily skin, as you would do with a toner. The citric acid from the lemon helps to balance your pH level and oil production.

Reduce the Formation of Blackheads - Lemon juice can dissolve blackheads over time. To do this, rub lemon juice over blackheads before bedtime. Then upon arising in the morning, rinse your skin with cool, clean water. Repeat this process every night until blackheads are no longer visible. The natural citric acid in lemon juice helps dissolve the oils that form blackheads in the first place!

Skin Brightener - Used fresh, lemon juice can soften and brighten any area of your skin. Cut a lemon in half and squeeze out all the juice you can into a cup. Before bedtime, dab a cotton ball into the juice and apply to any problem areas of your skin. Rinse well when you get up in the morning.

Store leftover juice in a container in your fridge and add to your bath water for an overall freshen up for your skin!

Skin Toner
If you have stubborn oily skin, (like mine!) lemon juice is a viable alternative to using toners. Combine 2 tablespoons vodka, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 tablespoon distilled water, with 1 teaspoon witch hazel. Dab onto your skin with a sterile cotton ball then rinse with cool water. Keep leftovers refrigerated for up until one week. The mixture will help improve your oily skin by reducing sebum.
